Welcome to Grade One!
Welcome
Our classroom blog will serve as a means of communication, information and to share our learning. The goal is to set your child up for success in developing good work habits, accountability and responsibility for his/her work and behaviour. Your support and partnership is also integral in making this a great year for your child.
School Mission Statement
École
Robert Browning is a bilingual setting where we respect ourselves and
others. We accept responsibility for our
actions and our learning.
Agenda
Your
child will bring home his/her agenda every night, containing assignments and/or
notes from school. I may also write
notes home in the agenda if I need to notify you of anything that occurred
during the day at school. Please feel
free to communicate via the agenda at any time.
Please check and sign agenda
every day. It will take us some
time to establish this is a routine in the classroom.
Home Support
Home Reading Program:
English
Home Reading will begin towards the end of September, once each student’s
reading abilities have been assessed.
You can help your child prepare for this program by setting aside 10-15
minutes each day to read to your child.
This will help your child learn to enjoy their reading time, and
establish a routine. More information on
the Home Reading program will be sent home once the program begins.
Words of the Week:
Your child will write 3 words in their agenda weekly. Please look for these word in books you read to them, in books they bring home and in the environmental print around you. I will assess these words in an on going manner through our Daily 5 conferences and word work time.
Allergies
As allergies are a growing concern I ask that when
packing your child’s lunch and snacks you keep in mind the school allergy
guidelines. Please refer to the
nutrition/allergy handout from Opening Day Conferences.
Birthdays
Birthdays
are informally celebrated in class with a “birthday song”, and students are
invited to bring their favourite book to share with the class. Students are welcome to bring a treat that
can be easily shared (cupcakes, cookies, etc.), but it is not necessary. Students with summer birthdays will be
celebrated before we break for summer holidays.
Scholastic Book Club
The
Scholastic Book Club offers books in English to Grade 1 students. Book orders will be sent home approximately
once a month. If you wish to make a
purchase, please return the completed forms to school along with a cheque (cash cannot be sent) made out to ‘Scholastic Canada Ltd.’ prior to the deadline indicated on the
order forms. If you are returning
multiple forms, please ensure your child’s name is indicated on each form.
